TV shows to rewatch for spooky season

Essentially this is me recommending a few TV shows that I still associate with the theme of Halloween to this day. Highly recommend rewatching or even watching for the first time.

The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017)

I started watching the TV series when I was high school and I followed the show right until it reached its dramatic end. Surprisingly, I hadn’t rewatched it since it ended in 2017 so I’ve decided that it has been a long time coming and it is spooky season after all. The great thing about this show is that when you do revisit it, there is no feeling that it is outdated or was good at the time but in retrospect it's not as good as what you once thought. If anything, it's even more interesting to revisit, knowing all that you do now about the fate of all the friendships and relationships.

The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror (1990-present)

The first Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode aired in 1990 in the second season of The Simpsons. I love to revisit these episodes during spooky season as they are just a fun tradition. The best thing about these episodes is that you get to watch three separate segments, three unique Halloween-themed stories. We even watched an episode which included a segment based on the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, in English class. I loved these episodes so much that pretty much all my Simpsons comics were the Treehouse of Horror themed ones.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)

I have super early memories of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because essentially I inherited an interest in this show from my brother. I then started to watch it from the beginning by myself as I got old enough and I loved watching Sarah Michelle Gellar as the vampire-slaying lead in this show. It's always interesting to compare different interpretations of the supernatural so I would still recommend this to people who somehow avoided getting caught up in the Buffy hype.

Supernatural (2005-2020)

I will be the first to admit that I did not complete all 15 seasons of Supernatural. However, I remember binging an unmentionable number of episodes when I first discovered this show. Using an episode guide I think it would be great to rewatch particular episodes. The stories and mysteries told in this show are so unique, some seriously dark and some seriously funny. In other words, some episodes are more lighthearted than others, such as the ones involving talking bears and a Doctor Dolittle moment for Dean (Jensen Ackles) involving a canine.

Teen Wolf (2011-2017)

Definitely a darker spin on the Michael J. Fox movie Teen Wolf (1985) but obviously more of a journey given the fact that it is a TV series. This is a show that you would jump at the chance to watch again for the first time but mainly because it started off quite strong but didn't necessarily stay that way. I do think that everyone should give it a go at least once. The supernatural elements definitely make it a good candidate for a rewatch this spooky season but for me the most memorable character from the series is Stiles, portrayed by Dylan O'Brien, who is actually one of the humans in the show. Honestly, I will probably publish an entire separate piece on why Stiles is one of my favourite characters on TV.
